The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has confirmed a case of measles in Norman. Health officials are urging caution after discovering the patient was contagious while visiting a public location.

According to OSDH, the individual was at Logie’s on the Corner, located at 748 Asp Avenue, on January 24. The exposure timeframe was between 9:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Anyone who was at the establishment during those hours and is either unvaccinated or unsure of their immune status is being advised to take action.

What You Should Do

If you were at Logie’s during the specified timeframe and are not immune, health officials recommend isolating from public settings for 21 days from the date of exposure. This is a precautionary step to prevent the potential spread of the highly contagious disease.

Folks experiencing symptoms such as flu-like illness, fever, or a new rash should also isolate and monitor their condition. If you need to seek medical care, OSDH advises calling your healthcare provider ahead of time to report your symptoms and possible exposure. This helps protect clinic staff and other patients.

Additionally, OSDH is asking exposed individuals to provide their name and contact information through an online form. This will allow health officials to follow up and provide guidance as needed.

How to Get Help

If you have concerns or symptoms related to this case, you can contact the OSDH Epidemiologist-on-Call at 405-426-8710. The line is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease, and health experts emphasize the importance of ensuring your immunizations are up to date. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine for full protection.

What Is Measles?

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through respiratory droplets. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash. In some cases, complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis can occur.

According to OSDH, the best way to prevent measles is through vaccination. If you're unsure about your vaccine status, you can check with your healthcare provider or local health department.

Community Response

Norman residents are understandably concerned about the potential exposure. Local health officials are working to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the infected individual and are providing resources to help control the situation.

In the meantime, folks are reminded to stay vigilant and take precautions if they believe they may have been exposed. "We just want everyone to be safe and informed," said a spokesperson for OSDH. "This is a preventable disease, but it requires community effort to stop it from spreading."
