Oklahoma may soon get its first Buc-ee's, according to official documents. A company called CSMS Management, LLC, based in Pearland, Texas, is leading the project. CSMS is reportedly a holding entity used by Buc-ee's for land purchases and development.

A final audit report of a project agreement between CSMS and Oklahoma City includes Buc-ee's email addresses, suggesting the popular travel center chain is behind the plans. Folks in Oklahoma City could be in for a big addition to the west side of town.

Where It Will Be

The proposed Buc-ee's would be located at the intersection of I-40 and Cimarron Road in far western Oklahoma City. This spot is just up the road from Clarence E. Page Airport. Right now, there's not much at that intersection except a lawn care service and a utility trailer dealer. The new Buc-ee's would sit on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The project is expected to cost $25 million. According to a memorandum, CSMS will handle engineering design, environmental studies, and permitting. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City will be responsible for environmental mitigation, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations, and removing encroachments.

Funding and Support

Part of the funding for this project comes from a $10 million grant secured by current U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin. Mullin obtained the grant during his time as a U.S. senator for Oklahoma. This financial backing is helping Oklahoma City prepare the site for the development.

For those unfamiliar, Buc-ee's is known for its massive travel centers featuring rows of gas pumps, clean restrooms, and an array of snacks, drinks, and gifts. Folks who have visited locations in Texas or other states often rave about the chain's brisket sandwiches and unique shopping experience.

While the agreement and funding are significant steps, there’s still plenty of work to be done before construction can begin. The city will need to complete its responsibilities, like acquiring land and addressing environmental concerns. CSMS will also need to finalize designs and permits.

If everything moves forward as planned, Oklahoma travelers could have a new go-to stop along I-40. For now, though, it’s a waiting game to see when shovels might hit the dirt.
