A tragic sledding accident in northwest Oklahoma City left a 31-year-old woman dead over the weekend, according to police.
Officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian around 11:10 p.m. Sunday near Northwest 81st Street and Walker Avenue. Police said a vehicle traveling south on Walker Avenue had been pulling a sled with a rope. That rope broke near Northwest 82nd Street, leaving the woman on the sled stranded in the roadway.
Another vehicle then struck the victim, who was identified by police as Makayla Mitchell. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said both drivers involved in the incident showed signs of impairment and were evaluated by a drug recognition officer.
Arrests Made
Blood draws were conducted at the scene, and both drivers were arrested. They were booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated DUI. Authorities have not yet released their names, as formal charges are still pending.
